Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) Overview

Flexible spending accounts (FSAs) offer you a way to save money on your health care and/or dependent care expenses using tax-free dollars. Your annual election is deducted from your paycheck in equal amounts and you reimburse yourself with tax-free dollars. Annual elections are “use it or lose it” so estimate wisely. HealthComp, the administrator for the Scripps EPO medical and dental plans, is the administrator of the health care and dependent care FSA's.

In addition to enhanced customer service, you can elect a debit card that can be used to pay for eligible expenses from your FSA. Also, you can elect automatic processing of your Scripps Medical and/or Dental Plan claims through your health care FSA without requiring any additional paperwork.

Debit Card

Existing FSA debit card users can use the same card in 2022. If you're a new health care FSA participant or would like to have a debit card issued , visit HCOnline. If you would like an additional card for your spouse or dependents, their name, social security number, and the relationship to the employee will need to be provided. Additional debit cards may be ordered by visiting HCOnline. Costs for lost or replacement debit cards are the responsibility of the participant and will appear as a deduction on subsequent Scripps payroll.

Auto Pay

HealthComp’s claims paying system and their flexible benefit system are integrated. This means that when an EPO medical claim, dental or prescription claim is fully or partially unpaid, HealthComp’s claims paying system will automatically check the participant’s flexible spending account, and if the claim is eligible to be reimbursed, it will pay out of that account. This saves you from having to wait for an EOB in order to submit a claim for reimbursement out of your flexible benefit spending account. When submitting physical claims, you must complete a form and attach the appropriate receipts. In addition, there is a $10 required minimum dollar. Any claim submitted that is less than $10 will be processed and pended until the minimum is met. Key features of each FSA are highlighted below.
